The Krewe of Antheia is a relatively new all‑female Mardi Gras krewe based in Slidell, Louisiana. It made its debut in 2023 and is named after Antheia, a figure from Greek mythology associated with flowers, swamps, bayous, and blossoming wreaths—symbols meant to reflect feminine strength, natural beauty, and community. The krewe describes itself as “a sisterhood of world changers,” and its founding vision includes combining the pageantry of Carnival traditions with a message of positivity, unity, and impact in St. Tammany Parish.
Each year, the Krewe of Antheia stages a daytime parade along Slidell’s traditional Mardi Gras route. It begins at Spartan Drive and Highway 11, then traveling along Hwy 11 to Hwy 190 (Gause Blvd) where it continues eastward to Kensington Boulevard (near Rouse’s Supermarket). The parade typically features about a dozen floats and roughly 200 female riders, and its signature throws include creative items such as flower crowns and hand‑decorated headbands rather than the more typical beads and trinkets.
Beyond the parade itself, the Krewe of Antheia is active in local philanthropic efforts throughout the Northshore region. It emphasizes community engagement, supporting causes and projects within St. Tammany Parish, and promoting ideals like friendship, honor, and positivity. Over a short span, it has become a visible and growing presence in the Slidell Carnival season, helping diversify the cultural offerings and community involvement of Mardi Gras on the Northshore.
Our History
Goddess Antheia, honored in ancient mythology, is the divine muse of vegetation, gardens, and blossoms—her spirit intertwined with the renewal of spring and the lush beauty of meadows and marshlands. Her name, drawn from the Ancient Greek word for “flower,” captures her essence as a timeless symbol of growth, grace, and natural beauty. Antheia also embodies human love and harmony, reminding us that the heart, like the earth, flourishes when nurtured. Her symbols—golden honey, fragrant myrrh, and other treasures—reflect abundance, renewal, and the sweetness of life itself.
Founded in March 2022, the Krewe of Antheia blossomed from the vision of four remarkable women — Kathy Lowrey, Taylor Frisard, Buffie Singletary, and Amy Thomas. What began as an idea rooted in friendship and community quickly grew into something vibrant and full of life, much like the goddess who inspired its name.
Antheia, in ancient mythology, was the Goddess of vegetation, gardens, and blossoms — a radiant symbol of renewal, beauty, and love. Her name, meaning “flower” or “blossom” in Greek, reflects her spirit of growth and connection. She was said to bring color to the earth and warmth to the heart, celebrating both the lushness of nature and the sweetness of human kindness.
Her golden treasures — honey and myrrh — represented abundance and joy, reminding us that life’s richest moments often bloom from love, laughter, and togetherness.
Today, the Krewe of Antheia carries her spirit forward — honoring beauty, friendship, and the renewal that comes when people come together to celebrate life and one another.
